Bhim Singh Rana was one of the most powerful Ruler of Princely State of #Gohad ( present day in Bhind district) near Gwalior.

Gwalior Fort was the centre of #attraction and there was a constant tussle among the Rulers of Princely States and Provinces to #Capture this Fort, a fort which even Babar admired a lot and referred to it as ‘pearl in the necklace of castles in Hindustan’. Bhim Singh Rana in 1740 took over it from #Mughal Governer Ali Khan who surrendered himself infront of Bhim Singh. He occupied and ruled here between 1740 to 1756 but, in year 1756, this Fort was again attacked by Marathas under the skillful leadership of Mahadji Scindia and in this attack he was wounded by the Maratha #warriors and died.

This three storied Chhatri of Maharaja Bhim Singh Rana was built by his successor Chhatra Singh adjecent to the Bhimtal, in the Gwalior Fort Complex.
