Popularity of Khayal Gaayki articulated by Gwalior Gharana of Hindustani Music facilitated invention of system of pawning Ragas during late 19th-early 20th century. Gwalior’s music aficionado had to pay to get a Raga freed from mortgage, if he desired a musician to sing that Raga.
