Today is the holy day of Buddha Poornima, the death anniversary of Singer Meeta Pandit’s great grandfather Gayan Maharishi Pt Shankar Rao Pandit ji the doyen of #Gwalior Gharana. Shankar Pandit ji was disciple of Ustad’s -Haddu Khan -Nathu Khan and Nissar Hussain Khan(of Gwalior). A school of #music in his memory ‘Shankar Gandharva Mahavidyalay’ was established in 1914 in Gwalior.

Amongst his foremost disciples were Pandit’s Krishnarao Shankar Pandit (son), Raja Bhaiyya Poonchwale, Kashinath Pant Muley, Dinkar Rao Patwardhan, Nana Sahib Joglekar( of Kirloskar Sangeet Mandal) , Eknath Pandit(brother), Ganapat Rao Pandit (brother).
