Over 300 students will benefit from the government’s scheme ‘Super 100’ this year after results of class 10 are declared. This number could have been 450 if the third hostel under the scheme would have been cleared and operational.
At present 300 students from Bhopal and Indore division only get advantage of the government’s ambitious scheme. The Directorate of Public Instructions (DPI)- wing of the school education department – had sent the proposal for opening of a new hostel in Gwalior or Jabalpur in 2016-17.
he then school education minister Vijay Shah had made an amendment in the proposal and suggested the hostel to be opened in his constituency Khandwa. Nevertheless, the finance department had objected to the proposal considering resources like teaching staff and scope in that region.
Now the school education department has prepared and sent the proposal once again recommending a hostel under Super 100 scheme in Gwalior and Jabalpur. Officials of the department confirmed about the proposal and added that the scheme’s main objective is to help the students from rural areas in career building. Toppers in class 10 board in commerce, mathematics and science are given admissions under this scheme at the residential schools where they prepare for engineering, medical, chartered accountant competitive exams under supervision of experts for free.
The scheme that started in 2011-12 had helped shape the careers of thousands of students till date. Opening more such hostels could prove a game changer for the deprived students, feel experts.
